In this picture the main motive is a car, a specific car – navy blue Renault Floride. My father came into its possession during the period of “deep” PRL (People's Republic of Poland), when the fulfillment of dreams about any four-wheeled vehicle was quite unrealistic, let alone this particular model. It was such a treasure in those times. Whereas I only appreciate its silhouette, my Dad also very much appreciated what was under the hood. The car was also sometimes used for trips outside the city, and my mother – then the girlfriend of the owner – sometimes had the honour of being a passenger, of course only as a passenger, even though she had a driver’s license. The scale of importance for the owner between his dream car and girlfriend is visible in the picture. For its painterly qualities, my attention was also drawn to the second plan – a wonderful, minimalist landscape, which I also saw as a gray emptiness – a metaphorical representation of those times.
