Playing

To me, this winter landscape of fun in the snow is a mysterious scene. I was inspired by an undated photograph from the first half of the twentieth century, showing civilians and military men having a snowball fight. I could not determine whether the photograph was made before the war and this was one of the last moments of the innocent joyful atmosphere before the drama which was only a premonition; or maybe this is a photo taken just after the end of the war, showing a happy game in spite of the tragedy that everyone had experienced, but, after all, the people in the picture survived. Due to this ambiguity, I decided on a highly simplified, silhouetted solution with colours reduced to white and a few shades of black.
